Barrenjoey High School Learning From Home Wed 9 March

Dear Barrenjoey High School community,

Today we have continued to witness unprecedented weather conditions impacting on many communities. Due to the extreme levels of rain we have had today and constraints on staffing levels, our school has decided that for Wednesday 9 March, we will be activating Learning from Home conditions, similar to the conditions we operated under during Covid remote learning. This decision has not been made lightly. We have been in consultation with our staff, our Director and our P&C President, and have decided, that to ensure the continuation of learning, learning from home is the most appropriate course of action for tomorrow.

What does that mean for your child(ren)?

1. All students are required to be online, working with their teachers and participating in lessons via Zoom where possible. Links for the Zoom sessions will be sent via student respective Google Classroom pages. Classwork will also be placed on relevant Google Classrooms. Should a staff member not have access to Zoom tomorrow, students will be informed via their Google Classrooms and appropriate work will be allocated.

2. Our school will be open for any student that is unable to work from home. Please note that there will be no formal teaching occurring at school. We will be conducting minimal supervision, with students accessing their Google Classrooms and completing work online from school, similar to that of the Covid remote learning period last year.

3. Sport for Year 8/9/10 will not be operating for tomorrow. If possible, please encourage your child(ren) to safely undertake some physical exercise during Periods 4 and 5. If they are unable to do so, please use this time to complete any outstanding homework, revision, or work on their assessment tasks.

Should you have any queries, relating to this email, please reply to this email. I will have our school email open this evening as long as I can to answer any questions you may have. I hope that you and your families are safe and your residences are not impacted by this weather. Our school will resume normal operations on Thursday 10 March.

Please note our P&C meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday 9 March has now been postponed. We will inform you regarding a revised date for the meeting.

This message has been sent by our school community email distribution list, including families, students and our staff.

Regards,

Mark Robinson
