Staff are expected to engage in ongoing, evidence-based reflection and improvement, guided by the NSW Department of Education’s What Works Best framework and High Impact Teaching Strategies. Across all faculties, teaching is underpinned by explicit instruction, formative assessment, differentiated learning design and targeted feedback. Programs are planned with clear intent and are regularly reviewed against student data, ensuring teachers understand where learners are, what they need next, and how progress will be measured. This disciplined, responsive approach to teaching and learning defines our professional culture.

A strong culture of collaborative professional learning supports this commitment to excellence. Teaching Sprints provide a structured cycle of focused improvement, where teachers trial targeted changes in practice, gather evidence of impact and refine their approach over time. Barrenjoey Bites offer short, practical professional learning sessions that introduce or revisit high-impact strategies that can be immediately applied in the classroom. In addition, Quality Teaching Rounds enable teachers to work in small groups to observe practice, engage in professional dialogue and analyse teaching using a shared framework. Together, these approaches ensure that professional learning is practical, ongoing and directly connected to improved classroom practice and student outcomes.
