Barrenjoey Inclusive Support Unit

The Barrenjoey Inclusive Learning Unit (BILU) is a dedicated support unit within Barrenjoey High School, comprising three purpose-built learning spaces for 21 students with additional learning needs, supported by three teachers, three School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) and a Head Teacher. BILU is committed to providing a safe, supportive and vibrant educational environment with a strong emphasis on inclusion, belonging and student wellbeing.

At BILU, we believe every student deserves access to high-quality learning that is tailored to their individual strengths, needs and aspirations. Our philosophy is grounded in individualised support, differentiation and high expectations, ensuring that students engage with meaningful and accessible learning programs aligned to the NSW curriculum. A skilled and caring team of educators and support staff work collaboratively to ensure each learner is known, valued and supported, fostering both academic growth and social-emotional development. Through structured routines and consistent expectations, students are empowered to build confidence, independence and lifelong skills.

The unit adopts a holistic approach to education that extends beyond the classroom, prioritising communication, wellbeing and independence alongside academic achievement. A key feature of BILU is its strong focus on future pathways and mainstream integration, providing students with opportunities to participate in the wider life of Barrenjoey High School and build meaningful social connections. We are committed to working in partnership with families, carers and external agencies, including therapists and support providers, to ensure a coordinated, wrap-around approach that supports positive post-school outcomes and lifelong success.
