Mathematics
The Mathematics Faculty is committed to fostering excellence, respect and academic rigour through a supportive and challenging learning environment where every student is encouraged to achieve their personal best. Through explicit instruction, problem-solving and critical thinking, students develop the mathematical knowledge, skills and confidence required to navigate an increasingly complex world. Our dedicated team of experienced teachers delivers a comprehensive curriculum aligned with the NSW Mathematics syllabus, ensuring students are challenged, supported and inspired throughout their learning journey. At Barrenjoey, mathematics is more than a subject—it is a foundation for logical reasoning, innovation and lifelong learning.
Across Stages 4 to 6, students engage with a carefully sequenced curriculum that promotes deep conceptual understanding and the practical application of mathematical ideas. To complement classroom learning, the faculty offers a range of enrichment and support programs, including MEME (Mathematics Extension Mathematics Enrichment) for Years 7 and 8, maths HELP for students requiring additional assistance, and BUS (Band Up Society), which provides targeted support and examination preparation for Stage 6 students. Accelerated Mathematics pathways are available on a demand-driven basis for high-achieving students, while participation in the Mathematics Olympiad allows students to challenge themselves through high-level competition and problem-solving. Through these opportunities, the faculty nurtures mathematical curiosity, resilience and achievement, empowering every student to succeed and excel.
