Creative and Performing Arts
The Creative and Performing Arts Faculty at Barrenjoey High School is committed to engaging students in diverse creative experiences that build confidence, inspire personal growth, and develop artistic skills through authentic performance and exhibition opportunities. The faculty fosters a dynamic and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to explore their creativity in a safe and inclusive space. Through strong partnerships between students, staff, and families, the faculty promotes a creative mindset that enhances wellbeing, self-expression, and community connection. Students participate in mandatory Music and Visual Arts in Years 7 and 8, with a broad range of elective and senior courses available across Dance, Drama, Music, Photography, Digital Media, and Visual Arts.
Students are provided with extensive opportunities to extend and showcase their talents through events such as CAPA Nights, B Block Jam performances, HSC Showcase evenings, and the annual Christmas Concert. The faculty supports enrichment through extension classes in Music and Visual Arts, as well as access to specialised facilities including a recording studio, darkroom, performance space, and well-equipped creative arts classrooms. A wide range of extracurricular groups, including Concert Band, Stage Band, Dance Ensemble, and Drama Ensemble, further enrich student learning by promoting teamwork, belonging, and excellence. These groups regularly perform at community events, festivals, eisteddfods, and regional tours, providing students with valuable real-world experiences that strengthen both their creative development and personal confidence.
